Key highlights:
- Industrial production continued to be the main driver of the economy. In July, the Industrial Production Index (IIP) increased by 14.5% YoY, higher than the 12.7% growth recorded in the previous month, reflecting strong expansion in the manufacturing and processing sector and production demand driven by exports.
- Domestic consumption continued to improve, reflecting sustained positive domestic demand. Retail sales of goods and consumer services increased by 14.5% YoY in July, indicating continued recovery in consumer confidence and a positive contribution to economic growth.
- International trade continued to grow strongly, although the trade balance remained under pressure from import demand for production. In the first seven months of 2026, total export turnover reached approximately USD 320 billion, up 21.7% YoY, while imports reached approximately USD 340 billion, up 34.8% YoY, resulting in a trade deficit of approximately USD 20.5 billion. In July alone, exports reached USD 53 billion (+25% YoY), while imports reached USD 56.7 billion (+41% YoY). This development reflects strong demand for imports of raw materials, machinery, and energy to support production amid high economic growth.
- Registered FDI capital continued to grow strongly, with cumulative registered FDI in the first seven months of the year increasing by 58% YoY, reflecting foreign investors’ confidence in Vietnam’s long-term growth prospects, investment environment, and position in global supply chains.
- Inflation remained under control within the Government’s target, although it continued to face pressure from global energy and commodity prices. CPI increased by 4.45% YoY in July, slightly down from 4.69% in June and remaining within the 4.5% target for the full year, indicating that the overall price level remained broadly under control.
Public investment disbursement had reached 42% of the full-year plan by the end of July. According to the Ministry of Finance, the pace of public investment disbursement in the first seven months of the year continued to be affected by both subjective and objective factors. Nevertheless, the implementation of key infrastructure projects continued to be accelerated by the Government to support the high-growth target for 2026.
